As a qualified and experienced coach and mentor, I use one-to-one discussions to enhance skills, knowledge, insight and confidence and to help people work towards change and personal or professional development.
Having undertaken extensive training in using cognitive behavioural coaching approaches, I am able to help people to work towards achieving their goals by focusing on the beliefs, emotions and behaviours that underly their choices and their blockages. I use a range of tools and models, based on what works for you, your learning style and preferences.
I will work with whatever is important for you, whether this is to do with your health and wellbeing, making changes in your life or career, dealing with personal or professional challenges and opportunities.
I encourage people to develop their own solutions to situations and problems they may be facing, to feel valued for who they are, using their lived experiences to make a positive impact. I can help you to increase your awareness of your own personality, strengths and preferences and the impact these have, to build effective relationships, confidence and self-belief in order to achieve success, be proactive and manage change positively.
As a person with a hidden disability and as a former carer, my special interests include working with people who are unpaid carers or who are managing a disability or long-term physical or mental health condition and those facing life/career transitions.
Some people come to coaching after having done counselling or therapy when they feel ready to make practical changes in their life or career. Others may be drawn to coaching, rather than counselling or therapy, because they feel it is more action oriented. There are some similarities between coaching/mentoring and counselling, not least because they share many of their theoretical underpinnings and use the same skills of questioning, listening, clarifying and reframing, but the main differences you will notice are that we may not meet as frequently, and that you will be doing some work in between sessions on things we agree together.
I have been working independently, as a Coach/Mentor and OD consultant since 2007, working in and with local authorities, the NHS, trade unions and third sector in a variety of roles and assignments as well as in my private practice. Prior to that I worked in local authorities in front-line, managerial and strategic roles for 20+ years.
I have accredited qualifications in coaching and mentoring including in Psychological Coaching, Health and Wellbeing Cognitive Behavioural Coaching and Coaching Supervision. I am also accredited to use Facet5 personality profiling tool. I am a member of the European Coaching and Mentoring Council (EMCC) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and abide by the EMCC Global Code of Ethics.
I offer a free 45-minute initial consultation at which we can discuss what you want to work on, how we might work together, practicalities and fees. My preference is for working face to face, but I can also offer telephone/Skype sessions.
