Lizzie Marshall

Clin. Dip. MUKCP.
Lizzie Marshall - Gestalt Psychotherapist

I’m here to help you hear yourself.

You might be feeling stuck in your relationships with others and/or with yourself. Perhaps difficult experiences from the past feel unfinished. Maybe you’re feeling weighed down by self-criticism.

My first priority is to cultivate with you a therapy environment that feels safe and supportive so that, at a pace that feels comfortable for you, you can bring the concerns in your life that need our attention and care.

I bring an awareness of how our feelings tend to be expressed by and held in our bodies; I’ve found that when we learn to pay attention to what we’re experiencing – looking beyond and below the thoughts and meaning-making that happen in our heads – we tend to be able to hear ourselves more clearly and fully.

Being human, we tend to rely on certain trusted ways – and many of these we learned when we were very young – of dealing with the emotional and practical challenges in our lives. By stepping back and noticing how and when these habitual trusted ways are serving us well and when they’re hindering us, and by experimenting in therapy with doing things differently than we might usually, we can develop a gentle curiosity towards ourselves from which there is more capacity for self-understanding and self-compassion.

I’m a fully-qualified Gestalt Psychotherapist MSc. I trained at the Metanoia Institute in London. I have worked as a counsellor in the NHS’s IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) counselling services, and in a low-cost counselling service. I follow the ethical standards of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the Metanoia Code of Ethics and Practice.
