Zoe Huntingford

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) Bachelor of Nursing, University of Birmingham
Zoe Huntingford - EMDR Therapist

I work on Thursday mornings from Hackney Therapy in Dalston and on Thursday afternoons and Fridays online. Other face to face in person session may be arranged if requested.

EMDR is a targeted therapy that identifies the causes of distress and helps people to move on into a calmer more grounded way of being. It is effective in the recovery of addictions, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, a wide range of phobias (eg: flying, driving, dental, public speaking), anxiety, depression, attachment issues and relationship trauma as well as multiple other mental health concerns.

One of the benefits of EMDR is that you won’t have to recount the trauma in great detail, which some people find very distressing. This is different to other therapies. Eye movements and sometimes other forms of bilateral stimulation such as touch (tapping) or auditory (sounds) are used. Even if you are unable to remember specifics about traumatic events EMDR can help your reprocess whatever it is so that your body remembers it without it continuing to impact you negatively.

It might be that the EMDR process can take you to unexpected memories or feelings. This is because brains can store difficult experiences of feelings in jumbled ways. The great thing about EMDR is it can access these experiences and feelings and heal them without us needing to be fully aware of them.

I’m an open hearted therapist who believes in people and their capacity to overcome. I want to share the tools of EMDR whilst nurturing your individuality and creativity in the healing process. I will do my best to support you on your path to letting go of what burdens you and embracing what fulfils you.

I have worked in mental health for 17 years mainly in the NHS with some work in charities. I have worked in a variety of hospital and community settings both with adults and children and young people. The focus of my work has always been to understand and heal the root cause of people’s emotional pain. Most recently my work has centred on supporting those who have experienced sexual abuse and those who have come into contact with the criminal justice system. I am interested in systemic injustice and how that plays out in both the wider world and in close relationships.
